CULTURAL FORMATION
-
Promoting Christian culture through lectures, symposiums,
and dialogues, and fostering an appreciation of the arts that uphold authentic
human values such as drama, music, literature, and the fine arts.
The Collegium Center promotes a profound appreciation for Christian culture
through the study and experience of Christian art, music, drama, architecture,
literature, history, liturgy, customs, ethics and philosophy. Pilgrimages
to the holy sites of Christendom are part of this experience. These offer
people an exposure to the universal Church in a communal setting. This
cultural formation imbues people with a distinct Catholic identity in
a coherent, enriching and positive way. The Collegium's cultural apostolate
not only evangelizes people, it also presents Gospel values to the wider
community and helps manifest Christ's transforming power in American society.
YOUNG ADULTS
-
Conducting a special apostolate directed at young
adults ages 18 - 39, especially inactive Catholics.
The Collegium Center for Faith and Culture conducts a special outreach
to young adults, age 18 - 39. This group accounts for over 40% of baptized
Catholics. At the same time, they are the least active in the Church.
Without those of this age, who are conspicuously absent from Church life
today, the Catholic Church in America will rapidly decline. The Collegium
Center's plan to evangelize young adults is a product of recent authoritative
studies combined with pastoral experience, creativity and strong leadership.
What makes this ministry to young adults unique is the Collegium's approach.
It creates an environment in which everyone feels welcomed, wanted and
actively involved in Church life.
Today many young Catholics feel estranged from the institutional Church.
In emphasizing community, the Collegium Center enables people, especially
young adults, to understand that they are not merely bystanders or recipients
of the Church's services, but they are also invited to participate in
and help lead ecclesial ministries and become meaningfully involved in
the Church's life. As they mature in their faith and follow their respective
vocations, they take their rightful place in parishes, schools, fraternal
societies and other service-oriented associations.
FRATERNITY
-
Evangelizing men and women through genuine Christian
friendship and fellowship.
The Collegium Center offers a welcoming, non-parochial setting where people
are socialized into the Catholic tradition and imbued with the faith in
a fraternal setting with and by their peers. The Collegium approach is
to befriend others in Christ and give them a sense of belonging and solidarity
among themselves and with the Church. Mentoring, dialogue and discipleship
along with formal and informal social events, characterize this approach.
This setting also offers people an uncommon opportunity to associate directly
with their priests. This environment of community and solidarity enables
individuals to overcome their sense of isolation and estrangement, providing
a forum of support and occasions to establish genuine friendships. As
the Church builds up the individual person, he or she becomes a stronger
Catholic.
