Pope John Paul II defined evangelization as the
Churchs effort to proclaim to everyone that God loves them, that
He has given Himself for them in Christ Jesus, and that He invites them
to an unending life of happiness. He reminded us by word and example
that Jesus Christ is the definitive answer to the question of
the meaning of life and to those fundamental questions which still trouble
so many men and women. The essential mission of the Church is
to proclaim this message. Today, in a world of great diversity and pluralism,
this mission is all the more pressing. Entrusting Herself to the Virgin
Mary, the Church depends on the primacy of grace and power of the Holy
Spirit to go forth to all the nations and bring the light of Christ
to the world.

The Church must set out to lead people out of
the desert, toward the place of life, toward friendship with the Son
of God, toward the One who gives us life, and life in abundance.
~Pope Benedict XVI
